The Kathleen Headband

I was having fun with the waffle stitch and decided to create a headband from the waffle stitch.  I quite liked the effect.  It works up rather quickly and you don't need much yarn for this project.

Materials:
Yarn
Medium worsted weight (look for the 4 on the label)

       
Hook
Size 5.00mm / H
To make sure you have the correct crochet hook for this pattern, here is a crochet hook conversion tool for you.


Stitches:
dc = double crochet; Yarn over, insert hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull through the stitch, yarn over and pull through the first two loops, yarn over and pull through the last two loops.

FPDC = front post double crochet; yarn over and go around the front of the post, yarn over and pull around, yarn over and pull through the first two loops, yarn over and pull through the last two loops.
 
dc2tog = double crochet two together; yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, you have three loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through the first two loops, (stop) yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch and yarn over pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through the first two loops, (you have 3 loops on your hook) yarn over and pull through all three.

Start with a Chain 6

Row 1: dc in 4th st from the hook, dc, dc,dc, (4) ch 3  counts as first dc in next row )

                        Beginning increase

Row 2: dc in same, dc, dc, dc, dc, dc, (6) ch 3 (counts as dc in next row)and turn

Row 3: dc in same, dc, dc, dc, dc, dc x 2 in
last stitch, (8) ch 3 and turn 
Row 4: dc in same stitch, dc, dc, dc, dc, dc, dc,
dc x2 in last stitch (10) ch 3 and turn
Row 5: dc in same stitch, dc, dc, dc, dc, dc, dc, dc,dc,
dc x2 in last stitch (12) ch 3 and turn
Row 6: dc in every stitch across (12) ch 3 and turn
Row 7: dc in every stitch across (12) ch 3 and turn
Row 8: dc in every stitch across (12) ch 3 and turn

 Beginning waffle section
Row 9:  fpdc, dc, dc, fpdc, dc, dc, fpdc, dc, dc, fpdc, dc, (12)  ch 3 and turn

Row 10: dc, fpdc, fpdc, dc, fpdc, fpdc, dc, fpdc, fpdc, dc, dc (12)ch 3 and turn

Row 11: fpdc, dc, dc, fpdc, dc, dc, fpdc, dc, dc, fpdc, dc, (12)  ch 3 and turn

Row 12: dc, fpdc, fpdc, dc, fpdc, fpdc, dc, fpdc, fpdc, dc, dc (12)ch 3 and turn

End waffle section
Row 28 dc in every stitch across (12) ch 3 and turn
Row 29 dc in every stitch across (12) ch 3 and turn
Row 30 dc in every stitch across (12) Ch 3 and turn


Beginning decrease
Row 31: dc, dc, dc,  dc2tog, dc2tog, dc, dc, dc, dc (10) ch 3 and turn
Row 32: dc, dc, dc2tog, dc2tog, dc, dc, dc, (8) ch 3 and turn
Row 33: dc, dc2tog, dc2tog, dc, dc (6)
Row 34dc2tog, dc2tog, dc (4)
SC around the entire headband.
                                                                                                                                               

Last step
Sew a button on one side of the headband.
There is no buttonhole, just put your button in between any 2 dc's on the row that fits your headsize!
